Condition
PCOS is a hormonal and metabolic imbalance. Ayurveda supports hormonal harmony through detoxification, metabolism-boosting therapies, diet and lifestyle guidance tailored to the individual.
Book a ConsultationAyurveda views PCOS as a Kapha-Vata disorder with Pitta involvement in the Artava Vaha Srotas (reproductive channels). Excess Kapha creates cyst formation and sluggish metabolism, while disturbed Vata disrupts the normal cyclical hormone release. The condition stems from impaired Rasa and Rakta Dhatu (plasma and blood tissue) metabolism, leading to Ama accumulation in reproductive organs. Unlike conventional medicine which often suppresses symptoms with hormonal pills, Ayurveda corrects the underlying metabolic dysfunction — improving ovarian function naturally. Treatment targets three levels: clearing Ama from reproductive tissues, strengthening Agni (metabolism) to prevent re-accumulation, and directly nourishing the ovaries through Uttar Basti.
Phase 1 (Detox): Virechan (therapeutic purgation with Trivrit or Triphala) clears accumulated Pitta and Kapha from the system. Udvartana (dry herbal powder massage) stimulates metabolism and reduces subcutaneous fat. Phase 2 (Direct Treatment): Uttar Basti (intra-uterine administration of Phala Ghrita or Shatapushpa Taila) directly nourishes ovarian tissue, reduces cyst size, and promotes follicle maturation. Yoni Dhawan (medicated vaginal wash with Triphala or Panchavalkala) maintains reproductive tract health. Phase 3 (Maintenance): Basti therapy balances Vata and hormonal cycles. Internal medicines — Shatavari, Ashoka, Kumari (Aloe vera), Kanchanara Guggulu — support long-term hormonal regulation. Diet is shifted to Kapha-reducing foods.
Menstrual regularity typically improves within 2-3 cycles (2-3 months). Acne and hirsutism show visible improvement by month 3-4. Weight loss of 3-5 kg in the first 3 months is common with combined diet + treatment approach. Ovarian cyst size reduction is often visible on follow-up ultrasound at 6 months. Many patients trying to conceive achieve pregnancy within 6-12 months of integrated Ayurvedic treatment.
Doctor's Note
“PCOS is not just a reproductive problem — it's a metabolic disorder that manifests in the ovaries. I always address gut health, stress, and weight simultaneously. Uttar Basti is our most powerful tool for direct ovarian nourishment, but it works best when the body is first prepared through Panchakarma. I recommend a minimum 6-month treatment plan for lasting results. — Dr. Naresh Padwal”
