Condition
Chronic skin conditions often reflect deeper Pitta and blood imbalances. Purification therapies and herbal support cleanse from within for clearer, healthier skin.
Book a ConsultationAyurveda identifies skin diseases (Kushtha) as manifestations of deep-seated blood (Rakta) and lymph (Rasa) toxicity. The skin is considered a mirror of internal health — when Pitta dosha vitiates the blood, it surfaces as inflammation, rashes, and burning. When Kapha is involved, conditions become chronic, wet, and oozing. Vata involvement causes dryness, scaling, and cracking. Importantly, Ayurveda recognises that most chronic skin conditions cannot be cured by external applications alone — they require internal purification (Shodhana) to remove the Ama that has lodged in Rakta Dhatu (blood tissue). This is why patients often relapse after using steroid creams — the root cause remains untreated.
Raktamokshana (blood purification therapy) is the primary treatment — either through Jalaukavacharana (leech therapy) for localised conditions or Siravyadha (venipuncture) for systemic blood toxicity. This directly removes vitiated blood and provides immediate relief. Virechan (therapeutic purgation with herbs like Trivrit, Aragvadha, or Haritaki) purifies the Pitta pathway through the liver and intestines. Vaman (therapeutic emesis) addresses Kapha-dominant skin conditions like chronic eczema with discharge. Dhoopan (herbal fumigation with Neem, Haridra, and Guggulu) provides antimicrobial and healing smoke therapy. Internal medicines — Manjishtha (blood purifier), Neem (antimicrobial), Khadira (skin healer), and Panchatikta Ghrita (medicated ghee for deep tissue nourishment) — work from within.
Active inflammation and itching typically reduce by 50% within the first week of Raktamokshana + Virechan combination. New eruptions stop appearing within 2-3 weeks. Chronic conditions like psoriasis and eczema require 3-6 months of sustained treatment including 2-3 Panchakarma courses. Pigmentation and scarring improve over 3-6 months with consistent internal medicine + Kumkumadi oil application. Dietary discipline (avoiding incompatible foods) is crucial for preventing relapse.
Doctor's Note
“Skin patients often have a long history of steroid use which has suppressed the disease deeper. When we start Ayurvedic treatment, there may be a brief aggravation phase as toxins surface — this is actually a positive sign. I counsel all patients about this before starting. Patience and strict dietary compliance are key — skin healing from within takes time but the results are permanent. — Dr. Naresh Padwal”
